Sunday,
January 6th Immokalee Regional Raceway Owner/Operator Ralph Hester once
again rolled out the Red Carpet for his racers and their families at the
Annual Points Banquet. The menu was one to die for as the 16oz steaks came
hot off the grill along with a salad, baked potato, corn on the cob, pounds
and pounds and pounds of boiled shrimp along with dessert. Along with all
the great food he also handed out thousands of dollars in Award
money/Savings Bonds along with trophies. Thanks again Ralph from all the
racers at Immokalee Regional Raceway. Ralph also announced some race
structuring changes along with changes in the points system for Immokalee
2008 season.
Saturday
night racing kicked off right on schedule with one of the new classes added
to the Immokalee venue. It was the Real Street Heads Up class making its
debut at IRR. This is Heads Up at its finest with the #1 qualifier running a
5.67 ET at 123 MPH. In the final round it was Mike Miller taking on Brad
Schehr. Miller got the win running a 5.62 ET at 124 MPH with a .411 RT while
Schehr just a fender back running a 5.69 ET with a slower .448 RT for runner
up.
In the
final round of the Combo class it was Bruce Liberman taking on Gary
Marshall. Liberman got the win as Marshall leaving a little early (.496)
turned on the red light. IN the semi final rounds it was Liberman getting
the bye run to the final while Marshall got the win over Steve Dweck.
In the
Sportsman class final round it was the 2007 Track Champion Tom Booher taking
on Bill Kapke. Both drivers having some fun dialing heads up with Booher
getting the win on a double breakout.
In the
Trophy class final round it was Matt Handt of Davie, Florida capturing his 1st
win. In the final round Matt ran a 10.25 ET on a 10.20 dial with a
.569 RT for the win while his opponent Monty Montgomery ran a 6.77 ET on a
6.80 dial with a .542 RT for runner up.
In the Jr.
Dragster final round it was Samantha Leavy taking on Sean Iemma. Leavy got
the win running a 8.01 ET on a 7.92 dial with a .514 RT while Iemma ran a
7.88 ET on a 7.90 dial with a .563 RT for runner up.
